Dr. Alistair Thorpe

Dr. Alistair Thorpe is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Utah School of Medicine and an Honorary Lecturer in the Institute of Epidemiology & Health Care at University College London. He received his PhD from the University of Essex for his work on the effect of different health communication methods at reducing clinically inappropriate antibiotic use in primary care. With his background in medical decision making and health communication, Dr. Thorpe’s research focuses on understanding how people estimate, reason, and make important health decisions. From these findings, he then develops and tests interventions (e.g., decisions aids, educational tools, and communication strategies) designed to promote better health and wellbeing across a range of contexts.
