(Mystery Shopping 2024)
Description
The Nursing Department of CUT conducts a trial shopping survey in the provinces of Limassol and Nicosia as part of the pilot program to investigate the level of compliance of alcoholic beverage sellers of the Cyprus National Addictions Authority (NAAC).
The secret visits took place in May and June 2024 (100 secret visits in each district). Secret visits took place on different days and times, taking into account the type of property. The visits were distributed among various types of locations: kiosks (79 visits), supermarkets/mini markets (26 visits), bars (11 visits), cafes (35 visits), and restaurants (49 visits).
Key findings:
- Most locations did not have warning signs about the prohibition of alcohol sales to minors.
- The majority of sellers (85.5%) were willing to sell alcohol without asking for ID or age verification.
- Only 1% of sellers requested ID for age verification.
- Sellers in bars were more likely to ask for verbal confirmation or ID compared to those in kiosks and supermarkets.
