ALTHEA App Enters First Phase of Controlled Trials and Pregnant Women Invited to Participate

13th September 2026

The ALTHEA project, a digital health research initiative coordinated by Cyprus University of Technology in partnership with 3AHealth Ltd and Birth Forward Cyprus has reached a key milestone: the app is now entering its first phase of controlled trials.

ALTHEA explores how social connection, trusted information, and community support can help women adopt and sustain healthier behaviours in the postnatal period. The app focuses on areas that matter most after birth: breastfeeding, physical activity, caffeine intake, and smoking abstinence. Its underlying research combines digital health with the study of social networks examining how relationships and peer support shape health choices in the weeks and months following delivery.

The postnatal period brings significant changes, questions, and decisions. ALTHEA starts from the recognition that women’s health after birth is shaped not only by individual choices, but by the support, information, and relationships around them.

Pregnant women are now invited to express their interest in taking part. Participants selected for this phase will be among the first to test the app after giving birth, connecting with a safe digital community and contributing to research on how digital support can better meet women’s postnatal needs.
