28th July 2026
On 2–3 July 2026, the co-OPERATOR Summer School brought together nursing students, researchers, and educators at the Cyprus University of Technology for two days of interactive learning, collaboration, and professional development. The event featured contributions from members of the Behavioral Science in Health Lab, including Dr Angelos Kassianos, Dr Maria Kyprianidou, and Dr Laura Panagi as well as collaborators from the CUT team Dr Nicos Middleton, Dr Ourania Kolokotroni, Dr Christiana Nikolaou, Dr Elena Rousou, Dr Koralia Michail and Dr Maria Dimitriadou.
The Summer School aimed to equip future healthcare professionals with the knowledge, communication skills, professional values, and attitudes needed to engage in respectful, empathetic, and evidence-based conversations with individuals who have concerns about vaccination. Participants explored the drivers of vaccine hesitancy, the impact of misinformation on public health, and the key role healthcare professionals play in building trust and supporting informed decision-making.
Through expert presentations, interactive workshops, group discussions, video analysis, and case-based learning, participants explored communication frameworks such as AIMS and the Cambridge–Calgary Consultation Model, developing practical strategies for addressing vaccine-related concerns in clinical practice.
A highlight of the Summer School was a series of small-group role-playing exercises, where participants applied these communication frameworks in realistic clinical scenarios. Guided by facilitators and peer feedback, they strengthened their skills in active listening, responding to misinformation, addressing patient concerns, and supporting patient-centred decision-making. These hands-on sessions helped translate theory into practice while fostering confidence, collaboration, and reflective learning.
Beyond the educational programme, participants also had the opportunity to network and connect during an evening boat trip along the Limassol coastline, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and lasting professional relationships.
The enthusiasm and active engagement of all participants highlighted the value of investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals. Through initiatives like this, the co-OPERATOR project continues to strengthen healthcare professionals’ communication competencies, promote vaccine confidence, and contribute to improved public health outcomes across Europe.
A sincere thank you to all trainers, speakers, organisers, and participants who contributed to making the Summer School such a successful and inspiring event.
Together, we are building a more confident and resilient healthcare workforce.
