Ms. Eleftheria Lazarou

Eleftheria Lazarou is a Midwife and PhD candidate in the Department of Nursing at the Cyprus University of Technology. Her academic foundation includes a BSc in Midwifery from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, an MSc in Research in Female Reproduction from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and an MPA in Public Healthcare Administration from Neapolis University Pafos. Her current doctoral research investigates the predictive value of biochemical markers in the development of gestational diabetes mellitus within a sample of over 500 pregnant women, aiming to advance evidence-based clinical approaches in maternal and neonatal healthcare.
Clinically, Eleftheria serves as the Head Midwife at Iasis Private Hospital, where she provides high-quality perinatal care and oversees clinical operations for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. In this role, she develops clinical protocols and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) in strict accordance with healthcare accreditation standards. Parallel to her clinical management, she practices as a Community Midwife, offering essential antenatal education and postnatal support to families. Furthermore, as a Special Scientist at the Cyprus University of Technology, she fosters the development of the next generation of midwives by teaching postgraduate courses.
Eleftheria has contributed to international research initiatives, including the LENA and INTERSECT projects. Her primary research interests focus on perinatal healthcare, with a specific emphasis on the pathology and endocrinology of pregnancy and birth, recognising this period as a critical window for long-term health outcomes.
She is currently working as a researcher in the ALTHEA CY project funded by the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.Â
