Dr. Giorgos Georgiou

Giorgos Georgiou (Ph.D) is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology at the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, at the European University of Cyprus and the coordinator of the Master in Clinical and Counselling Psychology since 2020.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Cyprus, a Master’s Degree in Psychology with specialization in Clinical Psychology from the University of Leiden (The Netherlands) and a PhD degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cyprus. Giorgos is also a registered clinical psychologist (reg. no. 535) and a clinical supervisor.

His clinical and research work has a focus on children and adolescents’ mental health, with a special interest in empathy, antisocial behavior and psychopathy. He is also interested in eHealth and solutions regarding providing smart, efficient and digital mental health services (i.e., Stay on Track Project). He had published numerous articles in several international peer-reviewed journals and he participated as a principal and coprincipal investigator in several research projects. In the past 7 years he has worked as a clinical psychologist in several Counseling and Mental Health Centers in both Cyprus and The Netherlands, and as a clinical psychologist in the Foster Care Department and Children’s House – a child-friendly, safe environment for sexually abused children, based on EU standards and the Icelandic model Barnahus (Children’s House).

He is an active member of various international scientific societies (i.e. Scientific Society of the Study of Psychopathy, EACLIPT), the Cyprus Psychologists Association, and he was a member of the Council for the Registration of Psychologists from 2019 to 2022. During this period, he is an appointed member of the National Committee for Supervision and Protection of the Rights of People with Mental Health Disorders.
