We are delighted to share that Dr Veronica Hadjipanayi, a member of the BSiH Lab, has been appointed as a Young Cancer Professional to contribute to the Working Group for the 2nd edition of the European Code of Cancer Practice, an initiative led by the European Cancer Organisation.
The European Code of Cancer Practice is a patient-centred framework developed to highlight the essential requirements for high-quality cancer care and to support better outcomes for people affected by cancer across Europe. Co-created by cancer professionals, patients, and patient advocates, the Code outlines ten key rights that reflect what patients should expect throughout their cancer journey, including access to accurate information, equitable care, shared decision-making, quality-of-life support, and access to research and innovation.
As part of this international collaboration, Veronica will contribute to the update of the Code by supporting the evidence and literature review for one of its key rights: high-quality end-of-life care if needed. This work brings together early-career cancer specialists, senior experts, and patient advocates to ensure that the updated recommendations are informed by the latest scientific evidence while remaining accessible and meaningful to patients, healthcare professionals, and policymakers.
The updated European Code of Cancer Practice represents an important step towards strengthening patient-centred cancer care and reducing inequalities in access to high-quality services across Europe. We are proud to see our lab represented in this initiative and look forward to the impact of this collaborative effort in shaping the future of cancer care.
