Second DESIPOC Project Meeting Held in Seville

20th December 2025

The DESIPOC consortium held its second project meeting on 4 December 2025 in Seville, Spain, advancing its work towards a sustained European initiative for monitoring and sharing best practices in psychosocial oncology care provision. The project brings together academic, clinical, and civil society partners to develop digital solutions, training resources, and policy‑relevant evidence that support integrated psycho‑oncology care across Europe.

Partner representatives from Cyprus University of Technology, CSI Center for Social Innovation Ltd, Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, ADIPER ADI & SALU SERSOC SL, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Medical Education Research and Innovation Center S.R.L., and the European Cancer Organisation attended the meeting.

Project Meeting – Work Package Progress and Planning

The main project meeting was hosted by ADIPER at El Cubo – Andalucía Open Future, within the Seville TechPark. Partners reviewed progress across all work packages and planned the next phase of activities. After a brief welcome and overview of the meeting objectives, each work package lead presented the current status and forthcoming milestones:

  • CUT reported on coordination activities and the overall implementation of DESIPOC, including timeline management and quality assurance.

  • CSI outlined progress on dissemination and sustainability strategies, focusing on stakeholder engagement and long‑term impact planning.

  • All partners provided updates on evidence mapping, clinical pathways, and training‑related work packages, highlighting interim results and upcoming deliverables.

A central part of the agenda was dedicated to the first prototype of the DESIPOC digital platform, presented by ICCS. Partners discussed functionalities, user journeys, and integration with psychosocial care pathways, and contributed detailed feedback to refine the roadmap for further development and pilot testing. The meeting concluded with a forward‑looking session on key deliverables, risk management, and coordination of pilot activities in partner countries.

Awareness and Networking Event – Psycho‑Oncology in Focus

On 5 December 2025, the consortium organised a separate DESIPOC Networking & Awareness Event titled “Advancing Psycho‑Oncology Care through Research, Collaboration, and Innovation,” also hosted at El Cubo – Andalucía Open Future in Seville. The event targeted local researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders interested in psychosocial oncology and digital health, and served as a bridge between DESIPOC partners and the regional psycho‑oncology community.

The session opened with welcome remarks from ADIPER and the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), followed by an introduction to DESIPOC and the Behavioural Science in Health Lab by Project Coordinator Dr Angelos Kassianos. The consortium then delivered a series of thematic contributions:

  • LSMU discussed psychosocial needs and screening in oncology care and lessons from clinical research.

  • The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) presented policy and advocacy efforts to embed psychosocial support in cancer care across Europe.

  • MERIC showcased innovations in medical education and empathy‑focused training.

  • CSI highlighted social innovation and digital inclusion for patient‑centred cancer support.

  • PASYKAF shared experiences from community‑based psychosocial services in Cyprus.

  • ADIPER and ICCS presented telemedicine, person‑centred digital care, and digital innovations supporting psychosocial well‑being in oncology.

Local Interactions and Collaboration Opportunities in Seville

The awareness event placed particular emphasis on dialogue with local stakeholders. A dedicated session brought in invited researchers or clinicians from Seville to present current projects, clinical practices, and research priorities in psycho‑oncology in Spain, creating space for mutual learning between DESIPOC partners and local teams.

This was followed by a roundtable discussion, moderated by ADIPER and CUT, on key psychosocial challenges in oncology care, the role of digital tools and training in integrating mental‑health support, and concrete opportunities for collaboration between Seville‑based groups and the DESIPOC consortium. The event closed with an invitation to informal networking, allowing participants to explore potential joint projects, shared training activities, and future research partnerships in psycho‑oncology at local, national, and European levels.

The BSiH Lab and CUT were represented in both events by Dr Angelos Kassianos, Dr Maria Loizou and Dr Veroncia Hadjipanagi.
